Spring gardening

With frost still lingering around, planting can only begin in the warmest of areas. Below is a list from the Tui garden as to what's best to sow; plant and pick in the month of September.

Flowers

Ageratum, alyssum, aster, begonia, chrysanthemum, Californian poppy, carnation, cosmos, dahlia, dianthus, everlasting daisy, gazania, geranium, gerbera, gypsophila, honesty, impatiens, marigold, petunia, nasturtium, phlox, Queen Annes Lace, salvia, snapdragon, statice, sunflower, sweet pea, verbena.

Sow
Wild flower seeds, sprinkle seeds over weed free areas and water in, plants will appear within a number of weeks 

Plant
Annual flowers:
ageratum, aster, chrysanthemum, poppy, carnation, cosmos, dahlia, dianthus, everlasting daisy, gazania, geranium, gerbera, godetia, gypsophila, honesty, impatiens — in frost-free areas, marigold, petunia, nasturtium, phlox, Queen Anne’s Lace, salvia, snapdragon, statice, sunflower, sweet pea, verbena and wallflower.

Perennials:  plant daisies, canna, anemones, Peruvian lily, felicia, arctotis, penstemon, delphinium, campanula, scabious, nemesia, diascia, roses, rhododendrons, Daphne, camellias, azaleas, wisteria, clematis, bougainvillea – in frost-free areas.

Pick
Camellias, Daphne, daffodils, tulips, lavender, tulips, hyacinths, freesias, anemones, poppy, orchids, stock, warratah, aquilegia, europs, azaleas.

Vegetables

Sow
Beans, capsicums, courgettes, cucumbers, eggplants, sweetcorn, tomatoes and basil under glass or outside in frost-free areas; broccoli, cabbages, carrots, cauliflowers, celery, lettuces, mesclun, mizuna, radishes, rocket, spinach and silverbeet outside.

Plant
Beans, courgettes, cucumbers, eggplants, potatoes, sweetcorn, tomatoes and basil under glass or outside in frost-free areas; beetroot, broccoli, cabbages, cauliflowers, celery, kale, mizuna, silverbeet, spinach, coriander, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme outside.
